Lake Powell: Going Blond

Kyle joined in the Lake Powell tradition of bleaching hair this year. Michelle came with supplies and transformed the boys. Kyle hasn't wanted to in the past, and I am not sure that he will do it again, but we've all adjusted and after all it is just hair. A few months and he'll be back to his dark self. Now all our kids are blond, but one is a little brighter than the rest.

Lake Powell 2010

Kari generously took the family to spend a week on the houseboat at Lake Powell.

This year was the year of miracles:

1. The houseboat anchors pulled out but Scott and Denise (although I am getting little credit) caught the anchors and stopped it from floating away with incredible strength. The last part may be an exaggeration, but both anchors were caught and shoved into the sand. The boat moved sideways but didn't float down into another houseboat.
2. After the winds died down, Scott and Michelle's brute strength pushed the sideways houseboat off the sand. The rest of the family came to their aid and the house boat was restored to it's rightful position perpendicular to the sand. It was a lot easier than anyone imagined it could be to get it back in place.
3. Bruce's boat after not working for several hours and having to be held in the wind to prevent it from damaging the prop, finally started and no more engine problems occurred.
4. We had a nice dentist neighbor who let us use his anchor to hook the non-working bumble bee or lemon as I was affectionately calling it at that time to his houseboat anchor until the wind died down. He also helped us secure the houseboat anchors.
5. Kari's boat which pulled loose from its anchor was spotted by Dad as it was crossing the bay. Bruce was able to stop "mid process" and drive Kari to her boat before it hit the rocky shore.
6. On our way to page to get the prop fixed (which ran over a ski rope), the engine cover to the boat blew off. We heard honks from other cars but didn't know why. After arriving at the fix-it shop, we noticed it was off and just resting totally unattached on the swim deck.
7. We found someone in page to pound out the prop and were able to return to the Lake on the best weather day of the trip.
8.  The houseboat was returned to it buoy without any damage to the houseboat or a call to the rescue folks.

Megan's Awards

We got a letter from Crescent View Jr. High informing us that Megan was being honored as the outstanding student in social studies.  They give the award to only one 9th grade student and the department gets together and selects the student they felt was most outstanding during their Jr. High years.  Meg received that award and many others that day!  Way to go Meg!
